How a legendary Indiana riding spot went private

It sat in the hills west of Kurtz, off Highway 50 between Bedford and Brownstown, and for decades it was the answer to "where can we actually ride around here."

Riders came from Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati, and further out. Forum threads from the late 2000s and early 2010s read like directions passed hand to hand: take the Seymour exit, head northwest to Freetown, west to Kurtz, then a mile down a lane on the left. People described hill climbs, a flat track, woods loops, and creek crossings across roughly 180 acres.

For a stretch, it was free. That detail comes up again and again in old posts, usually followed by disbelief.

Access came and went over the years. The gates closed, opened, and closed again. Riders kept showing up anyway, and kept filming. One of the videos below is literally titled "Riding at the Abandoned Moto Supreme."

The land is under new ownership now, and the public riding era is over. What replaced it is smaller in headcount and a lot better if you're the one holding the keys. Three cabins went in. A bar cabin went in the middle. The trails stayed.

When you book, you're not buying a day pass alongside forty strangers. You're renting the whole landmark for three nights or more, with a locked gate behind you.
